The task of “breaking bad news” is one of the hardest interpersonal challenges doctors have to face on a daily basis. No training can prepare for such an emotional situation. One approach how students can learn to handle hard conversation is to practice with trained actors. However, this solution is limited by the availability of actors, and oftentimes, students do not get the chance for this type of training. Empalli helps medical students in training to hone their interpersonal skills and learn to convey empathy in conversations with AI-simulated patient conversations, which accurately mimic realistic patient reactions.
