Safire

Project Description:

As there can be several unpredictable hazards while rescuing victims, firefighters often place themselves in danger when dealing with fire. For emergency situation such as fire rescuing, real time localization is very important because it is expected to improve the safety of the firefighters by allowing injured emergency responders to be rescued. Current state of the art provides no automatic solution to localize firefighters in closed environment. In order to solve this problem, we are developing a system which allows the incident commander to localize the firefighters in real time and from outside the building. For this purpose, we use the RTLS-Flares 2 Kit from our project partner Fraunhofer IOSB. The Kit is based on UWB signals and is able to set up a wireless ad hoc network. The aim of the project is to develop a real time localization system and to design a user interface for incident commanders to give strong support for their rescue teams and to ensure the safety of firefighters.
