Johannes joined the Lab in June 2021. He obtained a Master’s degree in Computer Science at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) with a focus on pattern recognition, database systems, and distributed systems. Previously, he studied European Economic Studies at Otto-Friedrich University Bamberg, with one year abroad for an ERASMUS exchange in Padova, Italy. After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree, he performed an internship at Jebsen Industrial Technology Co. Ltd. in Hong Kong, where he gained interest in data-driven analysis and the underlying information systems. Inspired by this experience, he pursued a second Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Systems which he obtained at the University of Regensburg. During this time, Johannes also had his first contact with machine learning and deep learning techniques while working as a working student at 8select GmbH. Motivated by a successful implementation of an image recognition system, he went on to FAU for his master’s degree.

For his master’s thesis, he worked together with Siemens Healthineers to develop a deep-learning based approach for a predictive maintenance application for medical imaging devices. This partnership has now been continued in the context of a PhD project, where Johannes will focus on identifying, designing, and implementing algorithms that support and improve customer service products and processes.
