Diagnostic Imaging in Virtual Reality

Abstract

New technologies like VR and the Leap Motion hand-tracking provide novel intuitive ways of interacting with medical data. Today the data is analysed on 2D Screens using 3D models and 2D slice images. Therefore the control using a mouse is rather hard and has to be trained.

This project focuses on the interaction design of commonly used tools to analyse CT Images in a virtual environment. We propose three different interaction concepts for each tool, focusing on intuitive and easy ways to use the tools. The interactions are designed along the spectrum of control symmetry in the interaction fidelity space. Therefore they vary from direct over semi to indirect interactions. The evaluation will then give an outlook, what kind of interactions along the control symmetry spectrum are preferred by radiologists doing diagnoses on a daily base.
